New Age music, ambient electronica, and spiritualized hip-hop received their first major, K-Tel-like treatment in 1996 when Virgin Records assembled Pure Moods. The 'As Seen on TV' compilation quickly became a hot seller, and it would be nice to think that its popularity has as much to do with the music as the marketing. To be sure, Pure Moods offers genre hits aplenty: from Enya's 'Orinoco Flow' to 'Sadness' from Enigma; from a dance mix of the 'X-Files Theme' to edits of vintage electronica from Mike Oldfield (Tubular Bells) and Jean Michele Jarre (Oxygene). Beyond other selections of beat-enhanced chants and a few other popular themes ('The Mission,' 'Twin Peaks'), the album, refreshingly, also includes a few selections noteworthy only for their originality and quality. A three-track section near end of the 70-minute disk features affecting soft African chants from Geoffrey Oryema, followed by 'My Wife with Champagne Shoulders,' a dollop of regal, faintly ethereal romanticism from master film scorer Mark Isham, then a robust piano workout, 'The Promise' from Michael Nyman (The Piano). With so many elements of interest on its 17 tracks, the album's broad diversity is sure to have broad popularity. --Terry Wood

- Wonderful mood musicI love sitting and listening to this album and I feel I am taken along with the music. It really does stir the emotions. Excellent musical artists feature on this album to give you an array of musical styles and it work's well!

- Not as good as the UK original from the 80'sI had the original on cassette (remember those) it's now long since lost. Great for relaxing to. Biggest critisism:- the removal of Malcolm Mclarren's Aria on air (British Airways Advert Theme.) I would pay for it all over again just for that track! I still gave the rest 4 stars though, so it aint all that bad.

- Ultimate Chillin' SoundsThis has been out for quite some time yet every time i listen,
it still relaxes and enchants me and i wish there was more compilations out there like this one.
If you like enigma or enya this is the one i would recomend 100%.

- Not as good as the 1994 original (vtcd 28)I bought this to replace the much loved, lost original. The cover picture may be the same and certainly fooled me but the contents were not - less tracks and some different ones too. No doubt a good album but not up to the excellent standards of the original

- A great way to relaxI highly recommend this CD - i can not think of a better recording to relax to. Whatever mood you're in, this compilation can focus your mood and really help you concentrate, or even just leave your mind free to wonder. i love it!
